The Electrical Contractor License (UP) is an official authorization that allows individuals or companies to undertake electrical contracting work in Uttar Pradesh — installation, repair, and maintenance across residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
The license is issued by the Vidyut Suraksha Nideshalaya (Electrical Safety Directorate) and is mandatory for any business carrying out electrical installation, repair, or maintenance work. Any contractor planning electrical projects must obtain it before starting operations.
The license ensures electrical work is performed by trained, qualified professionals while maintaining safety standards and government regulations.
To apply in Uttar Pradesh, the applicant must have a registered office in the state, trained electrical staff, valid business registration, and the financial capability to undertake electrical projects.
The Directorate issues licenses in three classes based on voltage level and scope. Choosing the right class is critical — applying under the wrong category leads to rejection and wasted fees.
For HT works anywhere in UP — industrial substations, transformer installations, HT transmission & distribution, large commercial buildings, and manufacturing facilities. Ideal for large contractors, MEP firms, EPC companies, and government/PSU tenders (UP PWD, UPPCL, UPRNN) with no zone-based restrictions.
For medium-sized contractors on commercial buildings, institutional projects, residential townships, small industrial units, and zone-level government contracts. Broader eligibility than Class C, ideal for contractors not engaged in high-tension work.
For residential wiring, retail shops, offices, small commercial establishments, and routine installations. Often the starting point for local electrical contractors and electricians taking on legally approved low-voltage projects.
The license is issued by the Vidyut Suraksha Nideshalaya (Electrical Safety Directorate) — the authority regulating electrical safety across UP. It oversees license issuance and renewal, wireman and supervisor certifications, safety inspections, and compliance enforcement.
Field operations run through divisional Electrical Safety Offices. Applications go to the office with jurisdiction over your registered business district. We work with offices in Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Meerut, Gorakhpur, Agra, Noida, Ghaziabad, Bareilly, Aligarh, Moradabad and more.
We follow a structured process for every Electrical Contractor License application in UP.
We review your documents, the work you plan to take up, financial position, and existing wireman/supervisor licenses — then tell you which class (A, B, or C) fits and what gaps to close.
The Directorate requires at least one licensed wireman and one licensed supervisor before the Contractor License is issued. If these aren't in place, we assist with those applications first.
We compile every document in the prescribed format — equipment lists matching actual tools, office proof aligned with GST, and currently valid supervisor/wireman certificates.
The application is filed at the divisional Electrical Safety office for your district, completed in the prescribed format with all attachments.
The prescribed government fee is paid through the official channel, and we ensure the receipt is attached with the application.
The Electrical Safety Inspector typically visits your registered office to verify equipment, setup, qualified staff, and infrastructure. We prepare you so nothing is missed.
Once cleared, the license is issued with a unique number. You can now legally undertake electrical contracting work in UP as per the class issued.
We track your expiry and send renewal reminders well before 31st March — including affidavit and challan handling where required.
Keep these ready before you start. The exact set may vary slightly by business type and class.
The license is valid until 31st March of the following financial year — a license issued in June and one issued in February both expire on the upcoming 31st March. Renew well before expiry; we recommend filing at least 30 days ahead.
Standard renewal applies.
The renewal application is filed during the January–March period using the regular renewal fee, before the 31st March expiry date.
An additional compliance step applies for continuation into the next financial year:
We inform you of this at the application stage and handle affidavit drafting, challan submission, and full renewal processing.
After handling applications across UP, our team sees the same avoidable mistakes. A professionally reviewed application catches these before submission.
